Resume basics for students
A one-page structure that works for internships and first jobs.
Keep it to one page
- Order: education, experience, projects, skills. Put your strongest section first.
- Include your expected graduation date and relevant courses if you don’t have much work experience yet.
Write bullets that show impact
- Start with a strong verb: built, led, analyzed, designed, reduced.
- Add a concrete detail or number when you can — “tutored 12 students weekly” beats “tutored students”.
- Cut filler like “responsible for”.
Before you send it
- Export as PDF and name the file with your name.
- Ask a friend or your career center to proofread — typos are the most common reason for a quick rejection.
