Finding mentors on Quaddy

How to reach out to upperclassmen and alumni without it feeling awkward.

Find the right people

  • Mentors listed their fields and courses — search by skill or major on the Mentors page.
  • On a course’s People tab, look for students marked “open to questions”.

Write a good first message

  • Say who you are, why you’re reaching out to them specifically, and ask one clear question.
  • Keep it short. Offer to continue by message or a quick call — let them choose.
  • Message requests arrive with the note you add, so include context like a shared course.

Pay it forward

  • Once you’ve taken a course, mark it “taken” and turn on “open to questions”.
  • Share an experience or a study guide — the next group of students will thank you.
