Finding your first internship
Where to look, when to apply, and how to stand out without prior experience.
Start earlier than feels necessary
- Many summer internships open in late summer or fall of the year before. Set a reminder for August–October.
- Smaller companies, labs and campus offices often hire later in spring — keep looking after the big deadlines pass.
Look in more than one place
- Filter Quaddy listings by Internship and your field, and save the ones you want to compare.
- Check your campus career center, department newsletters and the Campus board for research and campus roles.
- Ask upperclassmen who took your courses where they interned — find them through Mentors or a course’s People tab.
Stand out without experience
- Class projects count. Describe what you built, the tools you used and what you learned.
- Tailor two or three lines of your resume to each posting’s wording.
- Apply steadily — a handful of thoughtful applications each week beats a burst of generic ones.
